TRACEY Encinitas, CA

Written by Tracey Bobowski

This will be my 4th year walking the Breast Cancer 3 Day. The first year I walked (2008) I didn’t know anyone personally who had been affected by the disease, but, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed, statistically I knew it was just a matter of time.

Fast forward 4 years and in my circle of friends (not including any of the survivors I have met doing the walk) my Aunt and two of my girlfriends with kids the same age as my kids have battled and beaten this disease. Education, awareness, and early detection paid off for them. However, this year – 2011 – I have a friend that lost her battle with Breast Cancer. She was 35. Statistically, it is just a matter of time before there is another friend, wife, mother, sister, daughter who loses her battle too. Education, awareness, and early detection are not enough. We must find a CURE to end this disease. This year I am walking because I can not walk away.
