Exercise- Hobby or Habit?

Hobby vs. Habit- What’s your exercise regime?

HOBBY HABIT
You work out when you’re in the mood You work out daily
You complain about working out You complain if you can’t work out
You feel guilty if you miss a workout If you miss a workout, you add a workout
Excuses are abundant There are no excuses
You don’t exercise on vacation You take active vacations

Are you ready to take your fitness level up a notch?

Step 1. Commit. Oprah’s trainer Bob Greene said “you’re either exercising, or you’re talking about it.” Quit talking and become your own advocate for healthy living. No one can do this for you. Commit to incorporating exercise into your everyday routine.

Step 2. Embody the fit person you strive to be. Optimal fitness is not just about exercise, it encompasses active prevention, healthy eating, controlling stress levels, shedding bad habits and discovering what makes you come alive. Educate yourself about health and fitness. Seek out trainers, team mates, or professionals to keep you motivated, safe, and on track.

Step 3. No excuses. Don’t let anything deter you from squeezing in your “me time” to exercise. Break the cycle of excuses. Have a varied exercise routine so that regardless of what life throws at you, you have active alternatives. Car breaks down- walk, bike or run to work. Kids are sick- work out at home with Yoga, P90X, or Wii Fit. Snowy weather- whip out the snow shoes, sleds, or cross country skis. Make it happen. No excuses.

Step 4. Never stop. Discover what works for your body, mind and lifestyle and do it again and again and again until it becomes habit. The reward of being healthy, feeling fit, having more energy, and looking better will encourage you to never go back to couch potato status!

So what’s it going to be…..
